EGAS is a division of the European Physical Society and has held an annual conference every year since 1969 without interruption. The conference is one of the most successful European conferences in the broad field of AMO physics, typically attracting around 200 participants. As in previous years, we expect to attract a large audience covering a wide range of interests from all fields related to EGAS.

The Institute of Physics in Zagreb is a public institution whose main activities are scientific research in theoretical and experimental physics. With unique expertise in laser-matter interaction, including laser spectroscopy, cold matter and laser produced plasmas, as well as long-standing experience in surface science, solid state physics and biophysics, the institute is one of the most significant research institution in Croatia. The Institute has recently been very successful in drawing funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). At present, two research infrastructure projects and a scientific center of excellence are being implemented at the institute.

The Center for Advanced Laser Techniques – CALT is a strategic research infrastructure project of the Republic of Croatia. With investment of 16 mil. EUR from the ERDF into reconstruction of the Institute of Physics and state-of-the-art laser equipment, CALT’s mission is to provide the environment for interdisciplinary laser-based research at the highest level by establishing a national laser centre. The recognition of the benefits and opportunities that open up with the creation of CALT in Zagreb among our colleagues in Croatia, as well as our colleagues and collaborators from the region and beyond, is crucial for the CALT success. We have therefore dedicated the EGAS Mini Symposium on Friday to the research topics relevant to CALT, with prominent international researchers as plenary speakers.
