Our team focuses on the characterisation and control of noises arising in high-sensitivity interferometric measurements. Optomechanical coupling is the framework that helps us to understand the fundamental limits imposed by quantum fluctuations in the measurement process.
We are also interested in the noises and sensitivity limits of gravitational-wave interferometers, such as the franco-italian second-generation interferometer Advanced Virgo, whose sensitivity will be limited by quantum noises. We are integral part of the Virgo collaboration.
Finally, we use radiation pressure to demonstrate the quantum behavior of micro- and nano-mechanical resonators. Our goal is to exploit the quantum properties of such objects in the context of quantum engineering. We are part of the European network on cavity quantum optomechanics cQOM.
