Correlated cold materials

The group is interested in the production and handling of cold molecules (1K) and ultra-cold molecules (<1mK). Since molecules have a complex internal structure with respect to atoms, their direct cooling is based only in rare cases on laser techniques which have proved to be formidably effective for some thirty atomic species. The interest in cold molecules is explained by the many possible prospects, which depend on the performance in terms of density and temperature. In general, the cooling involves an extension of the interrogation time (by a probe), of manipulation and of interaction of  molecules: these characteristics lead to a gain in spectroscopic resolution (in particular  metrology).
