PhD Position: Spectral-temporal Metrology with Tailored Quantum Measurements

The NEw Quantum Optics group at Roma Tre university is looking for a Ph.D. student willing to engage in a research project on experimental quantum optics and quantum metrology, in the framework of the European STORMYTUNE project. The project will consist in developing new quantum technologies with enhanced metrological capabilities relying on the use and on the characterisation of time-frequency correlations. In particular, the student will be involved in the development of a compressed sensing technique for the characterisation of quantum states and processes.

What we look for in a student is:
– talent for working in a physics laboratory, experience with optical setups is welcome, but not mandatory;
– an interest in fundamental topics, a solid knowledge of quantum mechanics, and will to learn more;
– a good level of English (if you can read this ad, you’re already at the level we look for);
– good communication skills.

How the selection works:

The doctorate in Science of Matter, Nanotechnologies and Complex Systems offers each year four scholarships, starting in November. The selection process opens in May-June, and is completed in September, based on the curriculum vitae of the candidates, and an interview, that can generally be taken remotely.
